Marco Island is one of Southwest Florida’s best kept secrets. Just over the bridge from Naples, Marco Island is famous for its wide, white sandy beaches on the gulf, its active outdoor lifestyle and lush landscaping. This exclusive five-mile island has the most waterfront property near a crescent beach than anywhere in Southwest Florida. Marco is known for its water activities like boating, shelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. Other boating excursions include dolphin tours, jet skiing, sailing, catamarans, and airboat rides. Taking a cruise on a yacht is also a lot of fun. The Key West Express leaves daily from Marco Island in season.
Five-foot sidewalks all over the island are great for bicycling and walking. Another fun way to explore Marco Island is to rent a golf cart and drive around Marco’s 100 miles of winding roadways. Free outdoor concerts and fireworks displays at Crescent Beach.
Veteran’s and Mackle Park are also a big draw. The brand new, state-of-the-art amphitheater and Veteran’s Park grounds have live music, community gatherings, and a Farmer’s Market. Live music at local establishments are not to be missed. Marco Island offers tennis and pickleball, cultural events, as well as championship golf courses nearby. There are over 50 restaurants on the island along with shopping and entertainment. In addition to the beaches and outdoor lifestyle, people are flocking to Florida because of the low property and 0% state tax. It is not surprising that Marco Island was recently voted #1 Island in the U.S.A. by “Condé Nast” and #3 Island in the world by “TripAdvisor.” There is something for everyone to enjoy on Marco Island!
Marco Island has three beaches. Crescent Beach is the main beach. It consists of South Beach, Residents’ Beach, and North Beach. Two additional beaches on Marco include Tigertail Beach and Hideaway Beach.
SOUTH BEACH
South Beach is on Crescent Beach and is the most popular and prestigious beach on Marco Island. It is manicured daily and is a quicker trek to the beach as compared to North Beach and Tigertail Beach. Both on South Beach, JW Marriott and the Hilton have several restaurant, bar, and shopping options. Marriott Crystal Shores, Marco Beach Ocean Resort, and the Apollo all have restaurants on South Beach. Marco Walk (Collier & Winterberry) has restaurants, bars, shops, even ice cream/gelato, and a movie theater.
RESIDENTS’ BEACH
Residents’ Beach is on Crescent Beach and divides North Beach and South Beach. It is manicured daily. This is a private beach for “Residents Only” who pay an annual membership fee. Those who own a home, condo, or lease annually on Marco may obtain a pass at Residents’ Beach. It has a snack bar and thatched umbrellas. There is a large parking lot exclusively for its members. Many restaurants may be found near Residents’ Beach. Being a member of Residents’ Beach also gives you access to Sarazen Park, directly across from the “South Beach Access.”
NORTH BEACH
North Beach is on Crescent Beach and is north of Residence Beach. In addition to beachfront condos on North Beach, the closest access to North Beach is at Residents’ Beach or the “City Mid-Beach Access”. It is the widest beach on Marco and is manicured daily. Many restaurants may be found near North Beach. The shops and restaurants at the Esplanade is nearby.
TIGERTAIL BEACH
Tigertail Beach is north of Crescent Beach (past North Beach). This is the most natural beach on Marco and is not manicured like the other beaches. Many people enjoy this beach because of its thick trees and lush foliage, lagoons, and shells that wash ashore. There are two ways to access the beach. The quickest way is through the lagoon; otherwise, you will need to go around the lagoon, which can be quite a distance. It is open to the public and has its own parking lot.
HIDEAWAY BEACH
Hideaway Beach is a private beach that is exclusively for its residents and renters of single-family homes and condos in the Hideaway Beach community. All residents are required to join Hideaway Beach Club. As compared to the other beaches on Marco Island, Hideaway Beach is the most private and has the quickest access to the gulf from the beach.
PUBLIC BEACH ACCESSES
Marco Island’s Crescent Beach has only THREE public beach accesses. The accesses for South Beach include: “South Beach Access” next to the Apollo (Collier Blvd/Swallow), “City South Beach Access” next to the Marriott Crystal Shores (Collier Blvd/Winterberry), and “City Mid-Beach Access” next to the Madeira (Collier Blvd./Maple). Tigertail has a public beach access (Hernando/Spinnaker) as well.
LIMITED PARKING
There is limited public beach parking on Marco Island. If you do not own/rent near the beach or are a member of Residents’ Beach, it can be very difficult to find parking. The upside is that the limited parking does make the island more exclusive and less populated. There are two public parking lots on Crescent Beach: “South Beach Access Parking Lot” on Collier & Swallow and the South Beach “Turtle Parking Lot” on Collier—South of Winterberry. There is one public parking lot on Tigertail Beach (Hernando/Spinnaker).
